There is so much bubbling up in Modesto
before we get into the
summer. Let’s check out a few of the highlights.. .
Art Walk April 15 & May 20
Do not miss the Third Thursday Art
Walks in Modesto. The best works
from our local artists are on display and it is also a fun way to drink and
eat your way through downtown
Modesto. Cocktail at Tresetti’s, then
Mistlin Gallery; latte at Deva, then
to the Photographers Gallery; glass of wine at Concetta, then off to the
State; cold beer at Copper Rhino and then to Chartreuse Muse. You see
how this works. Lots of fun. Most importantly, if you like the art, make
sure you purchase it and hang it up in your home or office. Let’s make
Modesto a thriving art community.
Amgen Tour of California
This is world class bike racing as the season readies for the Tour de France.
Modesto, with its huge sponsorship and massive volunteer turnout, has secured a
“finish city” position for the Tour of California for the second year in a row. This is a
huge monster professional sporting event that is broadcast live around the world in
many languages. On May 19, Modesto California will be the center of the cycling
universe as Lance Armstrong, Levi Leipheimer and other world class cyclists sprint
into downtown Modesto, blistering around a loop with an exciting final sprint at 13th
and I St. This is huge and you will be blown away with all of the events, vendors,
jumbotrons, banners, stages, support vehicles and world class athletes. The festival
starts at 10 am and continues into the evening. The final sprint is expected to be
between 3 and 5 pm, so come downtown and hang out and dig the scene.
Modesto Certified Farmers Market
This is the best place to be on Thursday and Saturday mornings in Modesto. Fresh
fruit and produce, chef presentations, live music, baked goods and flowers and best
of all, most of your Modesto friends. The Farmer’s Market opens on May 1st and
continues every Thursday and Saturday morning until the end of November.
Here are some other things you need to
know about
Oakdale Chocolate festival combines a fun run, a real run, chocolate cooking demonstrations,
live music from local bands and of course, a car show.
May 15-16 in Downtown Oakdale
Earthday is April 17
Let’s make sure that we are doing all we can to keep
our planet functioning. Earth Day in Graceada Park is a
great way to tune in to all of these activities. While you
are there, you can sign up to be a NEAT team volunteer
and adopt a part of Modesto you want to keep clean.
Modesto 11th St Jazz and Music festival
This is a fun event that incorporates Barking Dog Grill, Fat Cat, and the other 11th St
places as well as the Gallo Center.
Relay for Life
This is a very important Cancer fundraiser at Johansen Stadium.
Most all of us know someone that has been touched by cancer and
this 24 hour event is the place to raise awareness and funds. You
can put a team together and walk, you can donate, your band can
play or you can just lend a hand. May 15.

Mission Possible
For those of you that travel, it is your job to change the perception of Modesto.
When you talk about where you come from, don’t let your new acquaintances talk
about the bad stuff. You need to redirect the conversation and talk about American
Graffiti, Star Wars, our rich ag culture, our dynamite music scene and our wonderful
010 is ready to rock
